There have been many questions lately concerning a jurisdiction's responsibilities concerning NIMS compliance. The recommendations on this page are just one individual's interpretation and should not be viewed as an endorsement by the Department of Homeland Security or Michigan's Emergency Management Division. These recommendations do not address training and exercise issues. They are meant to address planning issues at the County level. For a complete list of NIMS compliance requirements, go to the NIMS Integration Center web site and follow the recommendations. Click on the following link to access the NIMS Integration Center:

Simply put, the documents linked to the left side of this page contain the information I consider important for NIMS compliancy. Feel free to use this information, but remember, what is NIMS compliant today, may not be tomorrow.

Step 1: Ensure your jurisdiction adopts a NIMS compliance resolution. Click on RESOLUTION to the left of this page for an example (provided by Michigan EMD).

Step 2: Modify the General Section of your Emergency Action Guidelines. Click on the EAG hyperlink to the left of this page for an example. Go to pages 15 and 16 for an example of how to make your EAG General Section NIMS compliant.

Step 3: Greatly expand the ICS portion of your EAG. Click on the ICS link to the left of this page for an example.

Step 4: Add a National Respose Plan (NRP) Appendix to your EAG. Click on the NRP link to the left of the page for an example.

It is my opinion; that, by taking these steps now, your county will be NIMS compliant (planning) for some time.
GOOD LUCK!
